Until he started working as a Field Engineer at VC3, Jaryd E. didn’t realize how much he missed interacting face-to-face with people. In this role, Jaryd travels to client sites to troubleshoot and make repairs to computer equipment that can’t be fixed remotely. He sees the impact of his work and the appreciation clients show when their technology is fixed and running smoothly.
Jaryd’s onsite work provides both the opportunity to interact with people and the variety of daily challenges he enjoys. One day he might be fixing hardware on a laptop or replacing a network rack. Another day, he’s troubleshooting specialized equipment that is unique to a client’s industry. He loves it and that no two days are the same.
“The work keeps me entertained and challenged,” said Jaryd. “I searched my whole life for a company and career that challenges me every day and keeps me engaged, and I found it at VC3.”
Entry-Level Position Turned Knowledge into Skills
IT was not Jaryd’s first career. His professional journey started in retail and trucking. When his employer’s IT team began relying on him for hands-on tasks with networking equipment, Jaryd’s interest was sparked, and he began studying for the CompTIA A+ certification.
Jaryd was still working towards his A+ when he applied for an entry-level service desk position at VC3. He was hired and that role provided him with the experience he needed to turn his knowledge into solid skills. Now he’s not only earned his A+ but he’s working towards the Network+ certification and taking advantage of the training resources provided by VC3.
“I like that VC3 provides engaging content for training,” said Jaryd. “There are incentives in the form of bonuses and pay raises when you earn certifications.”
Support and Mentorship within Each Team
While Jaryd views ongoing training as a major factor in his career success, he recognizes the support and mentorship that have come from each team he’s been a part of. He knows he has a network of co-workers he can reach out to fill any gap in his knowledge. That means that even though he might be working independently, he has a team behind him who can step in to provide assistance at any time, and he in turn helps others.
“Independence is crucial, but teamwork is just as important,” Jaryd explained. “I have a support network of people I can reach out to for any issue, and I do the same for them.”
When he’s not at client sites, Jaryd often collaborates with other VC3 teams to round out his week. He may assist the First Call Response team or partner with software engineers on the Application Support Team. He views each assignment as a learning opportunity and a way to feed his curiosity.
Through his time at VC3, Jaryd has built strong connections to the people he works with, building relationships that not only cross distances but are growing into lifelong friendships. These bonds are a reflection of the supportive culture at VC3, where collaboration and camaraderie go hand in hand with personal and professional growth.
New Problems to Solve and Relationships to Nurture
For Jaryd, becoming a Field Engineer has meant stepping into a role that challenges him in all the ways he had been looking for. It’s work that keeps him engaged with new problems to solve, energizes him with face-to-face interactions, and offers the kind of teamwork that turns colleagues into lifelong friends.
